Maasai
Origin and location
They originated from North of Kenya in the Sudan. They are currently loacted in the Kajiado and Narok districts, in the Rift Valley province of Kenya.
Organisation
Their leaders were known as Laibons and these were men of high religious standing who made the decisions concerning the Maasai groups. The Maasai community had a well trained army that were known as the morans, the distuinguishable features of the Maasai Morans was that they adorned themselves with red clay known as ochre. Their warriors were armed with long spears and clubs made of hardwood and shields are made of buffalo hide.
The Dialects of the Maasai are as follows:Kaputei, Keekonyokie, Matapo, Laitokitok, Iloodokilani, Damat, Puko, Loitai, siria, Moitanik, Kore, Arusa and the Baraguyu with the Purko being the largest dialect in Kenya.
Sources of livelihood
The Maasai normally raided the neighbouring communities and made away with herds of livestock. Their food consisted of meat, milk and blood which was their main diet. They lived in short mud houses known as manyattas.
